Amazonite: A Gemstone Rich in Beauty and History

Amazonite: A Gemstone Rich in Beauty and History

Amazonite is one of the oldest gemstones, admired and valued as far back as Mesopotamia around 10,000 years ago, which I find incredible.

It was also found in Egypt during the Bronze Age and was often carved into figurines, simple jewellery pieces and stamps for wax seals. The Pharaohs valued Amazonite highly and often had their tombs decorated with it — including the most famous of them all, King Tutankhamun.

I’m always drawn to Amazonite for its fascinating history, beautiful colours and smooth touch, even more so when the sun is shining.

Why I Love Amazonite

The unique blue-greens of Amazonite are simply beautiful.

There’s something incredibly calming about the colour palette of this gemstone. It feels fresh, soft and natural all at once, which is perhaps why I find myself continually drawn back to it.

I’ve created the new Colette Amazonite necklace using opaque Amazonite, although the gemstone also naturally occurs in a translucent form. The stones have a beautiful matt finish and a soft rectangular shape that feels wonderfully smooth to touch.

For me, Amazonite instantly brings thoughts of summer and white linen.

The Colette Amazonite Necklace

When designing the Colette Amazonite necklace, I knew I wanted to combine Amazonite with coral, another material that immediately makes me think of summer.

As you know, I love creating jewellery with versatility, and the Colette is no exception.

It can be worn with the smooth Amazonite stones to the front for a simpler look, with the detachable coral and pearl drops removed. Alternatively, for something more striking, you can attach the beautiful Mediterranean coral dropper (sourced from authorised dealers) alongside the organic-shaped freshwater pearl.

One necklace, multiple ways to wear it.

How I Style Amazonite

I love wearing Amazonite with:

  • White

  • Powder blue

  • Cream

  • Sage green

  • Red

Its colouring makes it incredibly versatile and flattering to wear.

To complete the look, I would coordinate the Amazonite necklace with plain silver jewellery pieces or layer it with the Amelia necklace to bring in extra coral for a gorgeous summer feel.

The Meaning Behind Amazonite

One final word on the amazing beauty and history of Amazonite.

It is also believed to soothe the nerves of the wearer and is often referred to as the stone of peace, truth and harmony.

What more do you need?

Well… maybe a white linen shirt.
